'The no.10 shirt is now free for Becchio!' Leeds fans react on Twitter to Hunt departure

Leeds United

The Leeds forward left by mutual consent yesterday and fans are calling for the return of Norwich City's Luciano Becchio, currently on loan at Rotherham.

There were three main schools of thought as Leeds United announced the departure of striker Noel Hunt yesterday by mutual consent.

Firstly, plenty of Leeds fans quite simply took the mick (no relation to Mick McCarthy). Hunt's goals per game ratio - well he didn't have one - and plenty at Elland Road are happy to see him gone.

Others, however, felt the majority of supporters were wrong to turn on the forward, who has always been seen as a good professional off the pitch.

In light of recent reports, though, the third theme had to do with another striker: Norwich's Luciano Becchio. Indeed, the Norwich City forward, who is currently on loan at Rotherham United, has been linked with a Leeds return recently - and the Argentine's agent has been all too keen to talk that possibility up.

Rotherham, of course, have also been linked with a permanent move for the 31-year-old.

Hunt's departure, meanwhile, leaves the no.10 shirt free at Elland Road, with many supporters calling for it to now be given to Becchio if the club can beat Rotherham to his signature and prise him from Norwich. The forward was no.10 during his previous spell at Leeds.

“I feel no bitterness in anyway towards anyone associated at the club. All the way from the president, to all the coaching and general staff at Thorp Arch and at Elland Road, I’d like to say thank you," Hunt said after news of his exit broke.
