Reports in Italy suggest that while Liverpool have the financial advantage over Inter for Xherdan Shaqiri, the Italians have a crucial trump card.
Shaqiri has become frustrated at Bayern and is expected to leave in the January transfer window, and Liverpool are said to be desperate to lure him.
But the battle to snap the 23-year-old up doesn't seem to be a simple auction.
Shaqiri is said to prefer the possibility of playing for Inter and would be happy to sign a contract until 2019 for just £2 million per year.
Inter are only able to offer Bayern £9.4 million in three instalments, which the Germans are obviously reluctant to accept, but the player's will could still be crucial.
If Liverpool are unable to convince Shaqiri that they are his best bet then winning the bidding war against Inter may not be enough and they may have to look elsewhere.
Reports suggest that Inter and Bayern officials will meet over the next few days to try and find a compromise that will allow a deal to be completed.
