Former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that West Ham United can finish in the top six of the Premier League this season.
London outfit West Ham are currently seventh in the league table with 32 points from 20 matches, just four points behind fourth-placed Southampton.
The Hammers were looking good for a top-six finish until the festive period, during which time they struggled for points and wins.
Sam Allardyce’s side have not won a competitive match since December 20 and played out a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in the third round of the FA Cup on Tuesday.
Everton, too, are struggling and find themselves just four points above the relegation zone in 13th, with manager Roberto Martinez coming under pressure.
Owen, though, has positive predictions for both Everton and West Ham, and wrote on Sportlobster.com before Tuesday’s tie: “Everton v West Ham tonight on BT Sport.
“Contrasting fortunes for both teams so far this season but things can change. Winning a cup plus a mid table finish for Everton is still possible and a top 6 finish for West Ham looks within their capabilities.”
Former Newcastle star Owen, though, was not pleased with the performance of the teams in the game and wrote after full time: “Pretty ordinary game at Goodison Park.
"West Ham solid and would of taken a draw before KO (Big Sam admitted that before the game). Everton lacking confidence.”
Both Everton and West Ham are expected to improve on their recent results in the coming weeks, and Owen’s predictions for both of them could come true.
