Manchester United know how much they will have to pay if they want to sign Wesley Sneijder, with Galatasaray prepared to talk if a 20 million euros (£15.7m) release clause is met.
They will also be aware of the qualities the Dutch midfielder could bring to their ranks.
Sneijder has been a player on their transfer radar for some time, with Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes reported to have been keen on acquiring the Holland international in the recent past.
No deal was done then, with the 30-year-old opting to remain at Inter Milan before heading to Turkey in January 2013.
The presence of Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford may work in their favour this time around, with interest rekindled, but the Red Devils will need to act quickly if they are to prevent Juventus from luring the experienced playmaker back to Italy.
Sneijder’s representative Guido Albers told De Telegraaf: “There is interest but until there is an agreement between the clubs, Sneijder will focus exclusively on Galatasaray.
“If you want to speculate on what might happen, Wesley would return willingly to Serie A, where he has enjoyed his greatest success.”
Sneijder formed part of the Inter Milanm side that secured an historic Treble under Jose Mourinho in 2009/10.
He has struggled to scale those heights since, but he remains a quality operator and a player most sides in Europe would welcome onto their books.
The lure of Serie A is obvious, but it would be interesting to see whether a Premier League challenge appeals at this stage of his career if United were to make a formal approach.
