Aston Villa respond to reports on Ron Vlaar's future

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are all still to approach Aston Villa over a move for Ron Vlaar, according to the West Midlands outfit.

Aston Villa have received no enquiries for supposedly in-demand captain Ron Vlaar, according to the club themselves.

Out of contract in the summer, Vlaar’s future at Villa has been the subject of on-going speculation since his starring performances for Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands side at the World Cup, and a reunion with his compatriot at Manchester United has long-been rumoured.

United are reported to have prepared a £1.5 million bid for the Dutchman, with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool also named as potential suitors in recent months, but Villa have insisted to Sky Sports that there has been no interest at this point.

While Vlaar is understood to be intent on a new challenge, the club remain adamant that their star skipper will not be sold this month, leading to the prospect of him leaving for nothing at the end of the season.

The same is true for midfield talisman Fabian Deph, who is also entering the final six months of his contract and said to be the subject of a £3 million bid from Tottenham Hotspur, as well as interest from Liverpool.

Villa’s resolve will no doubt be further tested over the coming weeks but, considering their recent performances, one can’t blame Paul Lambert’s side for wanting to keep hold of their two biggest assets for the second-half of the season in order to dodge a potential relegation battle.
