Arsenal legend Martin Keown has been singing the praises of Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Iceland international Sigurdsson has flourished this season, following his move from Tottenham Hotspur to the Swans in the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals and created 48 chances in 19 Premier League appearances so far this season, while having a pass accuracy of 86% and a shot accuracy of 57%.
It is largely due to ex-Tottenham attacker Sigurdsson’s form that Swansea currently find themselves ninth in the league table, leading Keown to hail the former Reading ace as the Swans’ “star player so far this season”.
“Gylfi Sigurdsson is a player I particularly like,” the 48-year-old wrote on PremierLeague.com. “He is super intelligent and is really blossoming. We are also seeing his technique from free-kicks.
“Monk would have been a player at Swansea when Sigurdsson was on loan at the club in 2012 and would have seen the value and quality that the midfielder has. Monk was quick to bring Sigurdsson back in in the summer and it was a great bit of business.”
One of the reasons why Sigurdsson is doing so well is that he has been made the key attacking midfielder in the Swansea team.
The Icelandic was often played out of position at Tottenham and did not always get to play regularly, which impeded his progress at White Hart Lane.
Tottenham’s loss has been Swansea’s gain.
