£64m for Isco? Two questions Arsenal fans will want answered

Arsenal have been linked with making a massive bid to sign Isco from Real Madrid.

Arsenal have been linked with a potential transfer for Real Madrid’s Isco, which would smash the club’s transfer record and leave several fans with some questions for Arsene Wenger to answer.

Reports have claimed that the Gunners would be willing to pay a massive fee of £64 million for the Spaniard, which is a price that very few of the club’s main rivals would be able to compete with.

The first question Arsenal fans would be left asking is simply; why?

Central midfield, Isco’s best position, is the strongest area of Arsenal’s squad.

The club already have two world class playmakers in the form of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil, with Aaron Ramsey also capable of providing a threat from the middle of the team.

What Arsenal don’t have is a world class holding midfield player and someone who could offer the defence some bullet proof protection.

That leads onto the second question Gunners everywhere will be left asking; what about the defence?

There has been plenty of speculation over Arsenal’s interest in various top European defenders such as Isco’s Real Madrid teammate Raphael Varane, who the club would seemingly have more need for.

There are also players like Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund who the club could target, with the club’s apparent financial strength putting them in a good position to negotiate against Manchester United.

If Arsenal have capital of £64 million to spend on players then surely a world class defender has to be a priority over signing another player who doesn’t really offer the side anything different.

Arsene Wenger has never made a big habit of spending massive cash in the winter transfer window and after the initial shock, should he move for Isco, he’d have some explaining to do in order to justify the investment.
