Liverpool have been made favourites with BetVictor to sign Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall this January, but is he the right choice to replace Simon Mignolet?
According to the bookmaker, the Reds are far more likely than Arsenal or Aston Villa to sign the Cardiff goalkeeper this month and they are offering odds of 4/1 on the transfer happening.
We've taken a look at three questions that would surround this potential deal and ask whether Liverpool can, or should, overcome them in order to make the transfer a reality.
Is David Marshall better than Simon Mignolet?
In this case, eight months ago, opinion would have been split. Mignolet played in a top-three Premier League side, while Marshall was lauded for his performances in a bottom-three Premier League side, winning a Monday Night Football Team of the Year slot in the process.
Now, however, most people would argue that Marshall is a better goalkeeper than Mignolet, but until he proves it with a top club in the Premier League, it will always be up for discussion.
Is Marshall the right choice?
The 29-year-old knows what the Premier League is all about, he would know what to expect and he can perform to a high standard week in, week out.
Nevertheless, he isn't a name that would get Liverpool fans excited. Marshall hasn't played at the top level with a top club, and until he gets the chance it's impossible to know whether he can or can't play among the best in the world.
A more reputable name from abroad may seem like a better route, but unless there is huge money in reserve for a number one 'keeper, the Cardiff man could be the safer option.
How has Marshall been performing in the Championship this season?

Cardiff have not had a great season so far in the Championship and Marshall has not been the influential figure he was last term, which you can see by the stats. Should Rodgers ignore that and remember his performances last season or dodge what could turn out to be another underwhelming goalkeeper?
