According to Lee Ryder, chief sports writer for the Chronicle, Campbell has been placed on the Scottish side's wishlist as they look to bolster their squad.
Understand Glasgow Rangers interested in a loan deal for Adam Campbell #nufc— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) January 5, 2015
Rangers are currently 13 points behind Hearts in the Scottish Championship and they realise that they are in dire need of an influx of quality if they are to be able to breach that gap.
The arrival of Newcastle's Adam Campbell would represent a cheap option and he could be the man to fire the goals to push them up the league.
Campbell is no stranger to Scottish football, having played for St. Mirren for a while.
The flame-haired youngster has also represented Fleetwood Town and Hartlepool United in his burgeoning career to date.
The striker's scoring record while on these temporary moves has not been particularly eye-catching, but Rangers have clearly seen enough in him to feel he could be a worthwhile addition.
Campbell is renowned as one of Newcastle's brightest talents, and has already played three times for the club's first team, highlighting the potential that the Magpies feel he has.
Rangers will be hoping that this shows through if he does sign at Ibrox, as they are in dire need of some positivity after what has been a horrendous start to the campaign.
