Manchester United's captain has been rewarded for his performances last month.

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has been named the club's Player of the Month for December.

The 29-year-old played in five of the six games United contested last month, scoring three goals and providing two assists in that time.

United defeated Southampton, Liverpool and Newcastle United and drew with Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, but while they are on a fine undefeated run, manager Louis van Gaal will be concerned with the club's recent away form.

Rooney and his teammates will have to start winning consistently on the road if they want to push Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table.

The England international netted twice against Newcastle United and once against Liverpool, taking his tally to eight goals for the season.

Given David de Gea's continued outstanding form, some fans believed the Spaniard should claim the award yet again, but this time it went to the skipper, even if the 'keeper played a significant role once more.
