Fresh reports from Portugal claim Tottenham Hotspur face competition in their alleged pursuit of Sporting Lisbon defender Miguel Lopes.
Spurs were first linked with the player last summer, and reports this week claimed the North London club had rekindled their interest – a somewhat strange rumour considering Lopes is a right-back.
With DeAndre Yedlin arriving this month and Kyle Walker back to full fitness, signing another player to occupy the same position seems bizarre. But Lopes can also operate on the opposite flank and Yedlin will take time to settle, so perhaps the story has legs after all.
It certainly does in Portugal, where newspaper Record has today claimed Tottenham are not the only club interested.
Premier League rivals Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in the 28-year-old, with a potential loan move being touted.
Tottenham have already been linked with Adrien Rabiot on loan, so it is highly unlikely Mauricio Pochettino would bring in yet another player for such a short time.
But the rumours persist, with the latest claims suggesting Lopes wants to leave Sporting to start playing regularly again and what was first touted as a permanent move could now be a temporary one.
