Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio is confident of winning silverware this season.
While Spurs’ chances of winning the Premier League are almost non-existent, they can certainly emerge victorious in the other three competitions.
Tottenham have reached the last 32 of the Europa League, the semi-finals of the League Cup, and will take on Burnley in an FA Cup third-round replay at White Hart Lane next week.
Fazio, who joined Spurs from Sevilla in the summer transfer window, insists that they can compete in all of the competitions with success.
“Can we win one or two cups? It’s possible, of course,” the Argentina international told The London Evening Standard. “We are in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup and we need to fight in all competitions.
“We are alive in the Europa League, too, and now we need to think about the next games in the Premier League and fight for our objectives, like qualifying for the Champions League next season.
“The squad is big enough. It’s good for our objectives. We are trying to fight in all competitions and that is good. It works for the team and we need to keep playing well as a unit.”
Fazio has every reason to be confident about a successful season, but perhaps it would be wise to temper the expectations.
While Tottenham have turned around their fortunes with a unbeaten run of seven games in all competitions, they cannot become complacent as they could easily drop points in the coming weeks.
The Europa League is hugely competitive, and Tottenham can start to dream about winning it only when they reach the quarter-finals.
In the League Cup semi-finals, Mauricio Pochettino’s side face a tricky tie against Sheffield United, and the FA Cup campaign is just starting for them.
While Tottenham can certainly hope to win something this season, they should not get carried away just yet and take it game by game.
