Aston Villa gave some of their fringe players a chance in the FA Cup third round match against Blackpool at the weekend.
Villa manager Paul Lambert opted for the likes of Shay Given and Jack Grealish, but while the home side ultimately won 1-0, the young winger did little to suggest he is ready for a regular starting berth.
Grealish recently signed a new long-term deal at Villa Park, and he has been hailed in some quarters as the next big thing.
It is far too early to cast judgement one way or the other, but the 19-year-old's latest showing certainly generated a lot of chatter on social media following the narrow win.
Christian Benteke scored the only goal of the game with just two minutes of normal-time remaining, with Grealish long since replaced by Andreas Weimann. But after the match we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of the youngster's performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
all these talking about Grealish he"s not good enough, yet— bill reynolds (@billreynolds18) January 4, 2015
Grealish is good, he gets doubled up occasionally by teams but that only means other players get space. Was always going to be difficult— Daniel Raza (@dhraza) January 4, 2015
One poor performance and now Grealish needs to be loaned out? Makes no sense when have limited options from the bench as it is— Andy Morris (@Twicker_82) January 4, 2015
Grealish was poor today still way off a league start, but still need some wingers! #avfc— Christian Mason (@ChrismAVFC) January 4, 2015
Today's game at Villa Park showed us that Jack Grealish is not some sort of football messiah but a talented lad with an awful lot to learn.— Kevin Hughes (@kevinhughes348) January 4, 2015
@JMGray80 just awful, strikers static, no width. Can't see where next goal is coming from. Grealish showed he's not our saviour today— stuffyget (@stuffyget) January 1, 2015
