A sister site of Italian newspaper TMW claims Newell’s will hold a meeting over the future of 17-year-old forward Ezequiel Ponce this week.
Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with a move for the Argentine teenager, with a report from vocegiallorossa suggesting that Rom are the main side interested in trying to beat Spurs to his signature.
Spurs have one of the most exciting squads and youth team setups in the country, which makes them an extremely tempting proposition for any young player.
However, TMW and vg claim that there is an underlying bitterness from Roma towards Franco Baldini’s move to Spurs and signing Ponce would represent they still have the ability to attract quality players to Serie A.
The final decision rests with the teen and his representatives as well as his club, who simply have their own interests to represent.
For Newell’s a bidding war or conflict between Spurs and Roma could benefit them financially and it’s down to each side to make their case this week if reports of a meeting are accurate.
