Paulinho reflects on his performance against Chelsea and says that he is ‘happy’ at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho has said that he is happy to help his team in whatever way he can.

The 26-year-old Brazil international has struggled for playing time so far this season, having featured in just seven Premier League matches.

One of those appearances came against Chelsea at White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day, when Paulinho came on in place of Andros Townsend midway through the second half.

The former Corinthians star gave a good account of himself in the 5-3 win, ending with a pass accuracy of 79%, winning 50% of the tackles and 50% of the aerial duels.

Reflecting on the victory, Paulinho said that he always puts the team first and was happy to have made an impact off the bench.

“It was good for me to help the team from the bench and it was important to get a good 30 minutes under my belt,” he told Tottenham’s official website. “I’m happy, not just to get on the pitch but for the team to win.

“I know some of their Brazilian players – Ramires, Willian and Oscar – quite well. They are good guys and I speak to them regularly but when we’re on the pitch we’re against each other and it was a good one for me this time to get the better of them!

“We had a great win against a top team, but the most important thing is the three points and that everyone played well.

“We have to keep going now and focus again for our FA Cup game before we go back to the Premier League against Crystal Palace next weekend.”

Despite Paulinho’s assertions, speculation on his future will continue. Signed from Corinthians in the summer of 2013, the Brazilian has failed to reach the heights he did when he moved to the Premier League.

Italian club Inter Milan are reportedly interested in Paulinho, who probably has a few more games left for Spurs before a likely departure.
