The Leeds boss was asked whether the midfielder can break into the first-team picture at Elland Road.
The 25-year-old, who was given a rare chance in the FA Cup yesterday, has fallen out of favour at Elland Road and is far from a first-team regular.
Asked whether Murphy has a future with Leeds, though, boss Redfearn gave a positive response.
“I don’t see why not," the Leeds coach told reporters after his side's 1-0 Cup loss at Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
“Players need to know they’ve got to compete for the shirt and you have to remember that we’ve had Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook doing well in midfield. It’s unlucky that some of the seniors have found themselves out of the picture.
“But I have to say that their attitude in training while they’ve been out has been exemplary. You can see that from the way they came in and performed here.”
Leeds' next action sees them travel to Bolton Wanderers in the Championship this Saturday afternoon.
