Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will remain on loan at Doncaster Rovers until January 28 after the 21-year-old’s current deal was extended.

With David de Gea in sparkling form at United and Anders Lindegaard an able deputy if and when required, Johnstone was sent to the League One side where he has made 12 appearances this season.

The stopper also enjoyed an earlier loan spell at the club and the Doncaster Free Press has now confirmed that he will remain at the Keepmoat for a while longer.

Johnstone could have a big decision to make about his future sooner rather than later, especially if De Gea does what United fans are desperately hoping he will do and signs a new long-term deal.

If that is the case, Johnstone could be used as back-up at Old Trafford should Lindegaard move on, but at 21 the United youngster will want to be playing week in, week out from now on.

In other news, it has been announced on United’s official Twitter account that the club’s academy side will take on Hull City in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday January 13. The match will kick-off at 7:00pm GMT.

And finally, former Netherlands international Johan Cruyff has told United manager Louis van Gaal to stop complaining about the busy festive fixture list.

In an interview with De Telegraaf later published by ESPN, Cruyff is quoted as saying, “Complaining makes no sense if everyone else around you is happy.

“Moreover, everybody is well paid for working over the holiday period.”
