West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has played down speculation on his future.
The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the Baggies in the January transfer window, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both reported to be interested in his services.
Reported interest from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham is flattering for any young footballer, but the England Under-21 international is not letting it get into his head.
“I just have to do what I do on the pitch,” The Express & Star quotes Berahino as saying. “I’m a West Bromwich Albion player and I’ve just got to perform for them. I just ignore the stories and I don’t really read anything into it.
“Newspapers have said bad things about me so I’m not really fussed what they have to say about where I’m going or what will happen. I just ignore it all.”
Berahino may be just 21 years of age, but he is certainly mature enough to understand that focusing on speculation is not healthy.
The striker started the season brilliantly but then fizzled out, although in recent games he has started to regain his old form and is looking sharp again.
The month of January is going to be crucial for Berahino especially if an offer is made for him. The youngster will have a big decision to make which could have an ever-lasting impact on his career.
