Liverpool transfer news, Origi, Shaqiri and Neto links, Henderson lined up as Gerrard's successor

Anfield Night

A selection of the latest transfer stories and more involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.

Liverpool have been linked with bringing as many as three players to Anfield this January according to the Daily Mirror.

It has been widely reported the Reds will bring in Divock Origi earlier than anticipated. With Origi already owned by the Reds having signed in the summer but loaned back to Lille as part of the deal, but Liverpool are prepared to pay an extra £3 million to bring him to the club this month.

The Mirror's report suggests that will only happen if the Ligue 1 side can sign a replacement this month. They are also suggesting Liverpool will pursue Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich - who was linked with a move to the club in the summer but has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan, whilst Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto has been scouted for a year.

The two are said to cost around £10 million and £3 million respectively.

Away from transfers, Liverpool are in FA Cup action against AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow tonight as they look to keep another avenue to silverware open this season, and Kolo Toure has warned that the side must respect the League Two side in order to progress to the fourth round.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “Games like these are all about concentration and respect. You need to respect this kind of team.

“To have reached this stage they have done well and we must prepare like it’s a Premier League match.

“You know when you go away to a place like that you have to give 100% and be up for the fight.”

The Reds appear to have lined up a new captain for the club in the form of Jordan Henderson, with Steven Gerrard departing for the MLS in the summer.

Henderson was appointed vice-captain earlier on in the season, and Rodgers said one of the reasons he gave him the role was because he had the qualities to lead the club.

He said: “He has got no greater captain to learn from. That was the idea of putting him in that role and seeing Jordan being here for a number of years."
