Burnley fans react on Twitter to Sam Vokes' performance against Tottenham

Burnley fans took to Twitter on Monday night to react to Sam Vokes' goalscoring display in their side's 1-1 FA Cup draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Sam Vokes put nine months of injury hell behind him with the equaliser as Burnley held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 draw in their third round FA Cup tie at Turf Moor.

Making just his second substitute appearance since rupturing his cruciate ligament in March, Vokes produced a neat side-foot finish in the 73rd-minute to cancel out Nacer Chadli’s 56-minute opener and force a replay at White Hart Lane.

With the winner set to face Leicester City in the next round, manager Sean Dyche was encouraged by the result against a Spurs side fresh off a 5-3 victory over Premier League leaders Chelsea, and also reserved special praise for his fit-again striker.

“It was a game of very few chances. They made seven changes and had a team only £130m worth,” he told the BBC.

“It was a lacklustre game, with little atmosphere. We did everything to try and get a result.

"The massive plus is Sam Vokes getting a goal on his recovery. He is on his way back to full fitness. Our mentality is solid and our physicality is outstanding."

Having netted 20 goals in 39 Championship appearances last season, having Vokes back in the fold will be a big boost to Burnley’s survival hopes over the coming months, and fans seem just as delighted as their manager to see the Welshman make a successful return.
