Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been singing the praises of Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough.
Clough has been in charge of the Blades since October 2013 and has been steadily making an impact on the the team.
United are also in the running for a playoff spot, and on Sunday they defeated Queens Park Rangers 3-0 away from home in the FA Cup.
The victory at Loftus Road saw the Blades reach the fourth round of the prestigious competition, leading Wright to shower praise on Clough.
“I don’t know what it is about Nigel Clough and cup competitions, but the guy certainly has the magic touch – and yesterday his Sheffield United team were at it again,” Wright wrote in The Sun.
“Their fantastic 3-0 win at QPR means Cloughie has lost just two of 19 Cup matches since he took over in October 2013.
“The Blades already have a Capital One Cup semi-final against Spurs to look forward to, and they clearly have the bit between their teeth in the biggest knockout competition of all.
“QPR join West Ham, Southampton, Aston Villa and Fulham as top flight notches on the bedpost under Nigel, and it would take a brave man to bet against him adding a few more.
“Rochdale’s Keith Hill deserves special mention for their third round victory over Nottingham Forest – the Cloughie links keep coming don’t they – but Nigel just about edges it for me.”
Wright named Clough as his manager of the weekend, and his decision will be backed by many football followers.
The work Clough has done at United is very impressive, and he will certainly be looking to continue that by getting the better of Tottenham in the semi-finals of the League Cup later this month.
The first leg of the tie could prove to be key. If the Sheffield-based outfit can nick a draw at White Hart Lane, then they will certainly fancy their chances of progressing to the final given the vociferous support they will get at Bramall Lane.
