Valencia boss Nuno Espirito Santo did not beat around the bush as he professed his admiration for former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, labelling him the best ever.
The Portuguese winger has taken his extraordinary high standards to an all-new level this season as he dominates the goal scoring charts while breaking numerous records.
Arriving at United as a teenager, it has been some journey for the former Sporting Lisbon academy product and it is incredible to think he has become a better player since departing Old Trafford.
Since making that world record transfer, trading the Red Devils for the Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo has been scoring at a rate of more than one goal per game.
Only Lionel Messi has achieved such a record in recent seasons, yet even the Argentine’s unbelievable 50-goal haul in the 2011/12 La Liga season looks in serious danger of being broken.
This season, Ronaldo has scored 25 league goals in just 14 appearances – more than the entirety of any club currently sitting below sixth spot in the Spanish top flight table.
It is difficult to describe how good he is and how good in comparison to football’s legends of yesteryear, but that hasn’t stopped Valencia boss Nuno from giving his best shot.
“Real Madrid have many good characteristics, in my opinion in Ronaldo the best player ever. He is a perfect machine,” the Portuguese coach said of his compatriot in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
Ronaldo, 29, is the heavy favourite to win his third Ballon d’Or trophy and close the gap on Messi to just one in the personal honours.
After recently lifting the World Club Cup with Los Blancos, he became the first player in history to complete a Grand Slam – all club and top personal awards – with two different clubs.
