Robin van Persie missed out on United’s trip to Huish Park but he certainly wasn’t going to lose out on the magic of the FA Cup as he watched the match in the comfort of his own home.
The Dutch international has been an almost ever-present for the Red Devils this season, starting 19 of 20 Premier League matches.
In fact, after missing the opening-day defeat at home to Swansea City, the former Arsenal idol has been Louis van Gaal’s most used outfield player.
At times, his contribution has been questioned by the media – no more than so than a particular ineffectual display against the Gunners – but he has started to find his rhythm in recent weeks. And, after all, he is Van Gaal's 'golden boy.'
Nonetheless, Van Gaal decided not to risk his fitness for the clash at Yeovil and gave the striker a hard-earned rest following a busy festive period.
While seemingly not keen on standing on the terraces at Huish Park in the bitter cold, Van Persie posted a photo on Instagram showing his support for his team-mates.
“Come on lads,” he wrote while snapping left-back Luke Shaw in action.
In the end, Van Persie’s absence in Somerset mattered little as second-half goals from Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria secured a comfortable 2-0 victory.
With no European football to contend with and a solid place in the Premier League’s top four at present, there is no reason why the Old Trafford outfit can’t go very far in England’s most prestigious cup competition this year.
