Tottenham Hotspur’s Nabil Bentaleb reveals pre-match talk ahead of Chelsea showdown

Nabil Bentaleb is proud of Tottenham Hotspur’s achievement against Chelsea in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has revealed the advice he gave to his teammates before the Premier League clash against Chelsea on New Year’s Day.

Spurs staged a sensational victory over their London rivals at White Hart Lane, coming from a goal down to win the Premier League clash 5-3.

Just last month Mauricio Pochettino’s side went down 3-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but their performance on Thursday was much better and very impressive.

Bentaleb, who played the entire 90 minutes of the match and gave a good account of himself, has now revealed his input before the game.

“Before the game I spoke to the guys and we said that we would leave everything on the pitch,” the Algeria international told Tottenham’s official website. “We were playing against the top team in the league and we know how good they are.

“We knew we couldn’t make the same mistakes as we did in the past when we lost at Chelsea and that was how our minds were set up – to give everything.”

“We’ve been waiting for the opportunity to prove to everyone what we can do, and to give some love back to our fans,” added the 20-year-old Algeria international. “We’ve wanted to show them on the pitch what we want to do and I think we did that against Chelsea.

“We proved to everyone who was watching in the Premier League that we are capable of competing with the top teams in this league.”

Tottenham did indeed show what they are capable of against Chelsea, scoring no fewer than five goals against arguably the best defensive unit in the Premier League.

However, the key now is to build on the win and not drop points in the upcoming games. Spurs have picked up momentum and are playing relatively well, and they need to carry on doing so in the coming weeks.
