We take a look at what Liverpool could do in the coming days in terms of in-comings and outgoings.
With another transfer window upon us, clubs will look to strengthen their squads and bid a few farewells to ensure no regrets come the end of the season.
For Liverpool, they have much to work on, after their first half of the campaign had more downs than ups.
However, Brendan Rodgers’ side can take hope from a relatively impressive festive period that saw them take eight points from a possible 12 – although they will be disappointed to only draw 2-2 with bottom club Leicester City last time out.
Here we take a look at three deals Liverpool could complete in the early days of 2015.
Lucas Leiva to leave on loan
Reports continue to suggest Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva could temporarily leave Anfield, with Inter Milan the latest club to be linked.
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder has played an integral role in Liverpool’s recent matches after returning from injury, and yet the rumours persist and some fans remain unimpressed by the player’s contribution.
Neto to arrive
Liverpool need a new goalkeeper and while Victor Valdes may be the favoured option, Neto could be the more likely one.
The Fiorentina stopper has been linked with a move to Anfield for many months, and the latest reports suggest the 25-year-old has no intention of signing a new deal at the Serie A side.
With his current deal expiring in the summer, a January move could well happen.
Jermain Defoe to sign on loan or in a permanent deal
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has been linked with a loan move to Liverpool, and while initially it may seem bizarre it actually makes plenty of sense.
Defoe knows the Premier League like the back of his hand and he remains a consistent goal threat; something Liverpool do not have in the absence of Daniel Sturridge.
He would score far more goals than Mario Balotelli and either on loan or in a permanent £6million move (as has been touted) it is surely a no-brainer before Liverpool bid for one of the world’s best next summer.
