The former Liverpool boss has been linked with the Newcastle hotseat, although a former midfielder fancies his chances of succeeding at St James' Park.

According to the Daily Mail, former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is a 'frontrunner' for the Newcastle United manager's job, alongside Steve McClaren and Michael Laudrup.

Benitez won the Champions League and FA Cup during his time at Liverpool and has since gone on to also manage Chelsea during a period as interim boss.

The former Liverpool coach is in the running to replace Alan Pardew at Newcastle, however, the Mail's report states.

Temuri Ketsbaia

Meanwhile, former Newcastle midfielder Temuri Ketsbaia has launched an ambitious attempt at putting himself in the frame to manage the Magpies.

“I am watching what’s going on at Newcastle with a lot of interest and of course I am interested in the head coach role,” he told the Sunday Sun, as quoted by the Chronicle.

“There are not many managers in the world who would say no to that club. Any time that the job becomes available, it’s exciting and I am available to speak to Newcastle about it.

“I’d love to manage in England, I always said that and I think I could do a good job."
