You have to admire Marek Hamsik’s loyalty.
The highly-rated Slovakian playmaker has been linked with big-money moves away from Napoli from virtually the moment he walked through the door.
Premier League sides are reported to have led the hunt for his services, with Liverpool and Manchester United said to have been monitoring him for some time.
Hamsik is, however, tied to a long-term contract in Italy and has no intention of calling time on seven-and-a-half-year stint at his Serie A employers.
He is aware of the ongoing rumours regarding his future, with it regularly claimed that he is looking to move, but the 27-year-old has reiterated that he is happy in Naples and fully committed to Rafa Benitez’s cause.
Hamsik told Corriere dello Sport: “When my current contract expires, I will be 31 years old. My head is here and not elsewhere. I think it would be wonderful to win the Scudetto with Napoli, but it’s also great to keep lifting other trophies here and we’re in the running for the Europa League.
“I have little more to add to what I’ve already said: I am happy here and think I’ve said it so many times that even the rocks know I am happy at Napoli! So until 2018 I am focused on Napoli and nothing else.
“The fact we have won three trophies in two years after the club came from bankruptcy is a sign of how consistent the De Laurentiis project is. I am honoured to represent that.
“I know Napoli’s history and I’m more and more eager to become a part of it. I know how many caps I’ve got for the club and right now I’d be very proud to target 100 goals with this jersey. Hitting a century of goals would give further lustre to my life choice of being with Napoli.”
While Hamsik may not be looking for a move, it could be that the decision is taken out of his hands.
It has been suggested that a bid of around £20 million would be enough to bring Napoli to the negotiating table.
Hamsik would then likely jump at the chance to take on a new challenge while at the peak of his career, with Premier League suitors expected to step up their interest in creative and potentially match-altering talent over the coming weeks.
