Harry Kane and Christian Eriken may well be receiving the praise this season, but the Belgium international has improved drastically from last season.
Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four have received a boost after strong Christmas showings, which included a memorable 5-3 victory over London rivals Chelsea on New Year’s Day.
Harry Kane is certainly the man of the moment after his tremendous goalscoring exploits of late, while Christian Eriksen’s guile and range of passing have correctly been lauded.
However, another member of Spurs’ attacking component should not be overlooked.
The jury was firmly out on Nacer Chadli in the summer, with the White Hart Lane faithful not blown away by the Belgian’s showings in his debut season in England last term.
Despite this, the left-footed attacking midfielder has worked hard and enforced himself as a starter under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 25-year-old only managed one goal last season but has already struck seven in the Premier League this term, including the important fifth against Chelsea.
But, how do his other stats compare to last season?
|THIS SEASON||Team||Assists||Shot assists||Shots on target||Accurate crosses||Accurate passes||Accurate passes in opp half||Appearances|
|LAST SEASON||Team||Assists||Shot assists||Shots on target||Accurate crosses||Accurate passes||Accurate passes in opp half||Appearances|
As can be seen in the tables above, Chadli has dramatically improved the average number of assists and shot assists per game this season, while the number of shots on target has increased considerably.
The tables show that the number of accurate passes he has made, both in the opposition half and not, and the number of successful crosses are similar, with last season actually being slightly better.
From the statistics we can take that Chadli is starting to deliver. He clearly has skill and is good on the ball, but this season he is delivering assists, goals, more shots on target and the number of chances he has created.
Although Kane and Eriksen are rightly being hailed due to their excellent form this season, Chadli’s improvement and contribution is another real bonus for the White Hart Lane club and should not be overlooked.
