Michael Owen has backed Manchester United to go a long way in the FA Cup this season.
The Red Devils will kick off their cup campaign with an away tie against Yeovil Town at Huish Park today.
United will head into the third-round clash as favourites, and Owen believes that Louis van Gaal’s side will win the contest with ease.
Owen, a former United striker, also believes that the Manchester outfit could win the FA Cup.
“After the Capital One Cup embarrassment at MK Dons earlier in the season Louis van Gaal will be keen to avoid another Cup shock at Huish Park and I can see United going a long way in the FA Cup this season,” the 35-year-old wrote on Betvictor.com.
“With no European distractions and a large squad, many of whom are returning to full fitness, United look the team to beat this year and it should be noted the Glovers have lost their last three in League One.”
The former Liverpool and Newcastle United star added on Sportlobster.com: “Yeovil look a real hard working, athletic team. They will run all day but may need to against United!”
Owen’s prediction about today’s match will be backed by many. After all, even with changes to the side, United are a far superior team to Yeovil.
However, there can be no room for complacency. United need to be on top of their game right away from the start.
If United concede an early goal, then they could be in trouble, just like they were against MK Dons earlier this season.
