'He doesn't have to prove anything,' Biton defends Commons

The 23-year-old Celtic midfielder has been discussing one of his star team-mates.

Celtic midfielder Nir Biton insists Kris Commons has nothing to prove - and says Ronny Deila's side are simply relying on a greater number of goalscorers this season.

Commons has not been used as frequently by Deila this term as he was at Celtic last campaign, leading to speculation about his future - his contract expires at the end of the season.

But Biton is defiant about Commons and the Celtic team as a whole.

“Kris Commons is a very good player who doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody,” Biton is quoted as saying by the Scotsman.

“When you have a player like Kris, who scored 30-35 goals last year, it gave us a lot of opportunities to close the games early.

"This year we don’t have one guy who has scored a lot of goals but Stokesy [Anthony Stokes] and John [Guidetti] score maybe seven to ten each. This year we play more as a team and that’s what the gaffer wants for us."
