Arsenal head into the January transfer window in need of a midfielder, with fans demanding that manager Arsene Wenger brings in a player who can protect the back four.
The likes of William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon) and Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla) have both been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium this month, but Gunners legend Ray Parlour has his sights set on someone else.
Parlour, who made over 400 appearances for Arsenal during 13 seasons with the club, told TalkSPORT that Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin should be on Wenger's wishlist.
"Morgan Schneiderlin - I’d definitely sign him," said Parlour. "I watched him against Chelsea and he was fantastic just in front of the back four. He always wanted the ball and was always available but he also got stuck in and won the ball back in vital situations when Chelsea were attacking."
"He would be perfect for my old team Arsenal, absolutely, whether you can get him or not [I don’t know] because Southampton are in a very good position at the moment, they don’t want to let any of their players go at least until the end of the season."
Schneiderlin, 25, has been a star of the Southampton side ever since they won promotion back to the top flight in 2012, and has subsequently attracted interest from a number of clubs thanks to his fine displays.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham are also believed to be watching Schneiderlin, with a £25m price tag on his head - and whilst a January deal may be difficult, Arsenal could lure him to North London in the summer.
