The Baggies fans were pleased with the four goal haul from their star striker this afternoon.
For 40 minutes West Bromwich Albion looked like being on the end of an FA Cup upset. They toiled away against non-league Gateshead at the start of their meeting at The Hawthorns with new boss Tony Pulis storming down from the stands to bark instructions at his under-performing stars.
It seemed to do the trick. Two late goals in the first half against the run of play saw The Baggies take an unwarranted two goal lead. But after a half-time rollicking from Pulis they went out in the second half and stormed to a 7-0 victory.
Four of those goals came from striker Saido Berahino. The West Brom forward has been in excellent form this season and his double brace today takes his tally to 13 for the season in a week when he has seen his name linked with several different teams across the Premier League.
He is said to be interesting both Liverpool and Tottenham this winter, with reports of a £20 million bid being readied by the former.
But he showed his predatory instincts today in what was a fantastic performance, which will surely have the interested teams considering just when to make their move for the player.
And West Brom fans were certainly impressed with his output on Twitter. Here is a collection of Tweets on his performance this afternoon...
Berahino is class, his 4th goal was the best of the lot— Reiss (@AndreSchuerrIe) January 3, 2015
Biggest difference was Saido Berahino. Class act.— Jack (@mackjcallister) January 3, 2015
Berahino again, 7-0. 4 absolute class finishes— Raj Savraj (@RajSavraj11) January 3, 2015
He's a prat, but we can't sell Berahino. Class finisher and I would like to see the club try and hang on to a homegrown talent. #wba— Kathryn (@agitpro) January 3, 2015
Berahino playing well atho only playing at 50% by the sounds of things. Must be down to all the excellent coaching from Irvine...— Mark Bedford aye i (@bedders221) January 3, 2015
Terrible performance from the albion. Only highlight was an excellent finish from Berahino. Funny to see Pulis down after just 15 mins #wba— Lee Irving (@Leeirv90) January 3, 2015
Berahino's goals were superb, especially his last one which was beautifully curled into the far corner. Made it look easy. #BGVerdict— Baggies Galore (@BaggiesGalore) January 3, 2015
Great to see #Wba win 7.0. Poor first half, classy second. Hats off to Gateshead fans. Berahino superb finishing. Top day all round!— Adam Stevens (@AdamLibertyLies) January 3, 2015
