Manchester United are ready to open talks with Ashley Young over a new contract following his terrific form so far this season.
Young fitted in well at United and under previous boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s philosophy of counterattacking football with width.
However, the England international soon garnered a reputation for going down easily and was last season panned by the critics for a number of poor performances under then boss David Moyes.
With many expecting Young to leave in the summer, new manager Louis van Gaal decided to keep hold of him and it has proved an astute decision.
In a side plagued by injuries, the former Bayern Munich boss has been playing Young in an unorthodox wing-back position – a role which he has surprisingly excelled in.
As a result of his recent success, the club are planning on rewarding Young with a new contract and extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer of 2016.
“Manchester United are ready to open new contract talks with Ashley Young.Van Gaal has been impressed with the player’s versatility and is keen to extend his stay at Old Trafford,” The Sun reports.
Young i has started 11 Premier League matches this season and has been the Old Trafford outfit’s fifth most-used outfield player.
