Manchester United take on Yeovil Town in the thid round of the FA Cup this weekend, and while manager Louis van Gaal is likely to take the competition seriously there is still room for some of his younger players to be given a chance.
Here we take a look at three players who should be included in the match-day squad, either to start the game or to get a chance from the substitutes’ bench.
James Wilson has already been given plenty of chances by van Gaal this season, but the teenage striker has been used sparingly since Radamel Falcao’s return to fitness and Sunday could be the perfect chance for him to show what he can do.
Wilson may have scored twice on his senior debut against Hull City at the end of the last campaign, but the 19-year-old has gone 10 games without a first-team goal this season.
With Falcao, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie used regularly for United in recent weeks, expect Wilson to be given a chance from the outset.
Attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira has enjoyed stints on the bench this season but his only senior action to date was as a substitute in the League Cup mauling against MK Dons.
The Brazil under-20 international has talent aplenty and there is a strong chance he will feature against Yeovil, possibly as a second-half substitute if not from the start.
The 19-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season and van Gaal will want to see what he can do on the pitch and not just on the training field if at all possible.
United are currently rotating between Antonio Valencia and Rafael when it comes to the right wing-back position; but Saidy Janko is more than capable of playing that role and he could be given a chance on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Swiss-born player was another who played in the match against MK Dons and he will want the chance to show what he can do against Yeovil.
After the busy festive period, it would be no surprise to see him feature at some point.
