Former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has said that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was the best player he ever faced in the Premier League.
Former England international Gerrard has decided to leave the Reds at the end of the season when his current contract with the Merseyside outfit runs out.
The 34-year-old has played for Liverpool his entire career and is considered by many as the greatest player in the club’s history.
Tributes have been pouring in following Gerrard’s announcement, and Savage has joined in on the praises being showered on the veteran midfielder.
"I think the time is right for Steven Gerrard to leave Anfield,” Savage told BBC Sport. “I played against him numerous times and he was the best Premier League player I ever faced. His passing range is fantastic.”
Gerrard has never won the Premier League with Liverpool, but he has clinched the Champions League, the FA Cup (twice) and the League Cup (thrice).
