Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi - I’ve thought about quitting game

The Argentina international has admitted that he has considered a life away from football and thought about retiring early.

Long-term Liverpool transfer target Ezequiel Lavezzi has stated that he has recently considered quitting football in favour of a life out of the limelight.

The Argentina international has confessed that he does not enjoy the environment of football and will not work in the game after his playing days have finished.

The Paris Saint-Germain attacker also stressed the importance of travelling to see different cultures as a key part of his journey as a player.

“Sometimes I think about giving it all up. It's a thought running through my head today, not just in the past," Lavezzi told Marca Plus.

"Once I leave football, I will not continue with the world of sport. Right now I don't know what I might do.

"Certainly the best thing that ties me to football is the possibility of living well, discovering new cultures, and spending time with my family when it's possible – I enjoy it all the more.

"The worst aspect of it is the environment, everyone is powered by their own interests. It's not all what it looks like from outside.”

Lavezzi is seemingly constantly in the transfer rumour columns, with Liverpool the English side most frequently linked with a move for him.

The gifted South American has only started eight Ligue 1 games this season for PSG but was reluctant to reveal whether he could change club this January transfer window.

"I'm here and I aspire to reaching the highest point for me," the former Napoli man continued.

“The Parisian club has grown in terms of its football and institutional dimensions.

"Now they have an idea of football that is better defined than it was at the beginning, there is a football project. But it's all a matter of time and hard work.

"I'd like to win the Champions League or the next Copa America, and on a more personal level, I'd like to live happily with my family.”

Liverpool have had issues in their final third this season following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge’s injury concerns.

Brendan Rodgers is widely expected to attempt to reinforce his squad this month, with Lavezzi potentially a player that the Reds boss will run the rule over.
