Fiorentina have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Neto, who has recently been linked with Liverpool.
Having dropped Simon Mignolet and then been forced to recall the Belgian after an injury to Brad Jones, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to sign a new goalkeeper this month.
The likes of Petr Cech, Asmir Begovic and even Kieran Westwood have been linked with moves to Anfield, with Rodgers seemingly ramping up his search for a shot stopper.
The goalkeeper most strongly touted for a move to Merseyside is Fiorentina star Neto, who has allegedly been monitored by the Reds for months now.
The 25-year-old Brazilian is out of contract in six months, and Fiorentina have been pushing him to make a decision over his future, with a contract offer on the table from the Serie A side.
Today was deemed to be decision day for Neto - and it hasn't ended in the way Fiorentina would have wanted, with Neto deciding to move on.
"ACF Fiorentina announces that today, through his representatives, Norberto Neto has officially announced that he will not prolong his relationship with Fiorentina and has finally ended his professional career with the club," read a club statement.
"The player has also stated that it is not a decision due to economic aspects, but he made the decision for his own future."
That leaves Neto available for a knockdown price this month, or else he can move for free, and Liverpool will surely be on the phone to his agents immediately after today's news.
Roma are also believed to be interested in Neto, which leaves Liverpool with a fierce battle on their hands if they do want to bring the Brazilian to England.
