The Slovenian international is wanted by Cagliari this January.
Under the management of Darko Milanic at Leeds United one player was always likely to be linked with the club. Leeds have exploited the Italian market since the takeover of Massimo Cellino and with Milanic's Slovenian heritage Josip Ilicic was always likely to become a 'target'.
But despite Milanic only lasting six games the rumours linking Leeds with Ilicic have not dissipated.
Leeds have been handed a transfer embargo but still have a chance to bring in four players on loan this month, according to reports.
But Ilicic is not likely to be one of those signings, in fact he could end up at the former club of owner Cellino.
Serie A strugglers Cagliari are believed to be hoping to bring Ilicic on loan for the rest of the season. Gianfranco Zola, the former Watford manager, is the new boss at the Sardinian side, and is believed to be keen on the attacking midfielder.
Ilicic is struggling to get a regular game with La Viola and is also being linked with several other Italian teams.
