Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has backed Sunderland to win today’s FA Cup third-round tie against Leeds United.
The game will be played at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, and Lawrenson expects the Premier League outfit to win it.
“I don't know what is happening with Leeds on and off the pitch, and it is a sad state of affairs,” the 57-year-old told BBC Sport.
“Their fans will still travel in force and Sunderland might rest a few players after a busy Christmas period, but I don't see it making much difference.”.
Lawrenson predicts a 2-0 victory for Sunderland, and it will be backed by many football followers.
Gus Poyet’s side will head into the match as favourites despite not having a great Premier League campaign so far.
Leeds are also struggling in the Championship and are in real danger of suffering relegation to League One.
However, the Whites’ chances of staging an upset cannot be written off just yet. Leeds do have a good squad with a number of quality players.
If Leeds take the lead, then they could go on to win the tie and book a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
