Much has been written about Steven Gerrard following the news that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, with plenty of opinion pieces citing possible replacements for the legendary Reds skipper.
But former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher had his tongue firmly in his cheek when he took to Twitter on Saturday morning to suggest one player who would step into Gerrard's shoes with little effort.
"Enough of Gerrard now he's leaving," Carragher tweeted. "Replacement has to be Ross Barkley; offer 10million, go to 12 tops, job done."
Of course the Sky Sports pundit was joking, knowing all too well that the Everton star would never join their fierce rivals while his transfer fee - if he does ultimatetly leave Goodison Park - will be far more than £12million.
Carragher has recently praised Barkley, hinting he could be in line to win 2015's Sports Personality of the Year. But a move to Liverpool is never going to happen, and the ex-centre-back knows that as well as anyone.
