Tottenham produced their best display of the season so far, beating Chelsea 5-3 at White Hart Lane.
They did so without record signing Erik Lamela, who was replaced in the starting line-up by Andros Townsend, who netted from the penalty spot.
The Argentine took to Twitter after the game to explain his omission from the team as owing to a minor injury.
Brilliant game today! I did not play for a small calf injury, but I started to recover.Thank you to all for the support! Come on you spurs!!— Erik Manuel Lamela (@Coco_Lamela) January 1, 2015
Lamela will likely continue to be rested in the FA Cup game away to Burnley on Monday night, giving him nine days to recover for their next Premier League fixture.
That is on January 10 away to Crystal Palace, who are likely to have Alan Pardew installed as manager by then.
The fact Spurs were able to record such an important result without Lamela speaks volumes for their squad, and his impending return is just another reason for fans to be positive.
