Southampton players were ecstatic after beating Arsenal 2-0 at St. Mary's Stadium on New Year's Day.

Southampton players took to Twitter after beating Arsenal 2-0 in a comfortable win at St. Mary's Stadium.

It will go down as one of the finest displays under Ronald Koeman, as the Saints defeated a potential top four rival - and in such convincing fashion.

Some catastrophic Arsenal defending helped them on their way, but that takes far too much away from Southampton, who were the better team throughout.

Sadio Mane's superb angled lob over the stranded Wojciech Szczesny gave the Saints the lead, and Szczesny's comical clearance handed Dusan Tadic a tap in from close range in the second half.

It leaves Southampton perched nicely in fourth place, and they are proving that their fantastic start wasn't just a flash in the pan with this win.

Players were ecstatic to kick off 2015 with a win, with stars such as Graziano Pelle and Fraser Forster, youngsters Harrison Reed and Matt Targett and even manager Ronald Koeman taking to Twitter to celebrate.
