On this day: Pogba's Arsenal dream and Liverpool open to Sterling exit

Raheem Sterling

On the 2nd January 2014 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Liverpool.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 2nd January 2015, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 2nd January 2014…

Pogba's Arsenal dream

A year ago today and one of the best midfield players in the world was discussing how he used to dream of playing for Arsenal.

Paul Pogba, a former Manchester United youngster, was now with Juventus and was making it clear that he was happy at the Turin club.

But he admitted that Arsenal were once a team he wished to play for:

"At Juventus I'm doing fine. I don't hide the fact that as a child I dreamed of playing for Arsenal and FC Barcelona."

Arsenal could certainly do with a midfielder of his ilk in the frame, but it is Manchester United and Liverpool who are currently being linked with his signature.

Sterling the Swan

In what was one of the stranger rumours of last season's transfer window it was rumoured on this day that Liverpool were preparing to loan out Raheem Sterling.

The England international had been in and out of the team in the weeks prior to the rumour and it was believed Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was happy for him to join up with his former club Swansea City for the rest of the season.

Of course that proved to be incorrect. Instead Sterling remained and played a pivotal role in Liverpool's surge toward almost winning the Premier League title.
