Manchester City fans react on Twitter to Gael Clichy's performance v Sunderland

The City defender was somewhat of an unsung hero against Sunderland on New Year's Day.

Gael Clichy registered two assists for Manchester City yesterday afternoon as the Premier League champions beat Sunderland 3-2.

And, while most of the plaudits went to match-winner Frank Lampard post-game, Manchester City fans did not fail to notice their full-back's contribution on Twitter.

Boss Manuel Pellegrini, meanwhile, was delighted with the character shown by his side after Sunderland pegged them back to 2-2 (City had led 2-0).

“After we’d gone two goals ahead, it is difficult to explain what happened next. We know they have some tall players and are dangerous from set-pieces, but the penalty was disappointing to concede," Pellegrini said after the win against the Black Cats.

“I was more pleased that my players had the personality and character to recover and go on and win the game as well as creating several more chance to score – so much that Costel Pantilimon was their best player.

“We are not trying to win to games in order to put pressure on Chelsea - we are trying to win games and play good football and at the end of the season we will see who has the most points.”

Clichy was most certainly one of Manchester City's unsung heroes against Sunderland. But the 29-year-old received deserved praise from his fans on social media...
