Barcelona fan poll provides hope for West Ham United's transfer chances on Alex Song

Barcelona fans are not keen on Alex Song returning to the club from West Ham.

West Ham's summer transfer business has been a key part of their strong start to the season, but there is still work to be done.

The Hammers need to turn the loan addition of Alex Song into a permanent switch if they are to at least stand still, and at least half of that task is relatively uncomplicated.

The Cameroonian is not coveted back at Barcelona, who are just one point off the La Liga top spot at present.

A new fan poll in Catalan newspaper Sport shows he is not particularly wanted, with only five per cent of fans placing Song as the loanee they most want to see back in Barcelona colours next season.

That's the joint lowest figure among the five options provided alongside Ibrahim Afellay who is at Olympiakos.

The star Barcelona fans most want back is Denis Suarez, who dominates the voting with 67 per cent of the voting. The former Manchester City trainee is currently impressing on loan at La Liga competitors Sevilla.

For West Ham it's good news as there is unlikely to be any fan pressure for them to keep Song despite his impressive displays in the Premier League.

The big obstacle will come as to whether they can show the midfielder they are his best option next season.

His displays will have a number of clubs sitting up and taking notice, knowing the star is available for transfer. West Ham may need to secure European football to stand the best chance of getting him to stick around, but he will have to continue to contribute towards that himself too.
