The 22-year-old was wanted by Levski Sofia last summer, that boss is now in charge of Watford.
The likes of Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason have proven recently that players certainly can come through theyouth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur. Why stop there? Harry Kane and Danny Rose aren't doing bad either.
But not all of their talented youngsters will make it and Cristian Ceballos looks increasingly like becoming one of the latter.
The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Portuguese club Arouca, does not look like becoming a first-team regular for Tottenham and his future certainly appears to be elsewhere.
The former Barcelona youngster is perhaps leaving it too late to make his way into the Tottenham first-team, so where next for the Spaniard?
Well he has a known admirer in the Championship.
Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic is always looking to improve his team and the former Chelsea midfielder once tried to sign Ceballos when managing in Bulgaria.
Last summer Jokanovic was starting his ill-fated stint as Levski Sofia manager and wanted to sign both David Bentley and Ceballos. He told Bulgarian media:
"We have interest, but ask (director of football) Nasco Syrakov about these things. Next week I expect to have news ... I hope that we complete the deals soon, which will help me in our upcoming matches. That's all I can say about Levski's future transfers."
Of course the deal never happened, perhaps the move to Bulgaria did not sit well with the young Spaniard.
But a move just outside of London would surely be a more appealing option for the Tottenham star if Jokanovic was to reignite his interest at Watford.
