Southampton ended 2014 in the top four, and they started 2015 there too after a convincing win over Arsenal at St. Mary's Stadium.
Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic got the goals, capitalising on two comical defensive errors from the Gunners in another terrible afternoon for Arsene Wenger.
Yet rather than focus on the mistakes from Arsenal, Southampton deserve a ton of credit for producing yet another fine result, again demonstrating why they are in the running for a Champions League spot.
Mane and Tadic will steal the headlines, but Southampton fans were almost unanimous in their belief that Victor Wanyama was the man of the match.
The Kenyan international, 23, has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, and showed the Gunners what they are missing with a great performance.
Still unheralded - largely down to playing alongside Morgan Schneiderlin in midfield - Wanyama took the plaudits on Twitter, with Southampton fans full of praise for his performance.
Wanyama continues to improve under Ronald Koeman, and one fan even suggested that he's much better under the Dutchman than he was under predecessor Mauricio Pochettino.
The whole Arsenal midfield were totally and utterly Wanyama'd today. #saintsfc— Paul (@paulywesty1604) January 1, 2015
Wanyama was incredible today. Absolute beast. What a win. #Saintsfc COYR!— Saint Paul (@happyhoppy66) January 1, 2015
Wanyama's transformation from last season to now been incredible. Speaks volumes to Koeman & his staff compared to Poch methinks. #saintsfc— Ian Thompson (@ianthompson08) January 1, 2015
Massive result. And yet again Wanyama was superb. My player of the season so far. So often overlooked by 'expert' pundits. #saintsfc— Jack Westgarth (@J_Westgarth) January 1, 2015
