Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to return to winning ways on New Year’s Day.
Jose Mourinho’s side will take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Thursday.
Chelsea will head into the clash on the back of a 1-1 draw with Southampton away from home, while Spurs also failed to win on Sunday.
Merson predicts Chelsea to pick up the three points in North London and mocks Tottenham.
“Chelsea will win 3-0 - and I'm being kind to Tottenham here, as Chelsea fans call it ‘Three-point Lane!’” the 46-year-old wrote on Skysports.com. “If Man Utd were as ruthless as Chelsea are then it would have been 3-0 on Sunday.
“It is only waiting to happen at Tottenham, believe me, they are waiting to be on the end of something big and I think this will be it.
“I think that Chelsea are head and shoulders above Tottenham and the game will be over in quick time.”
Merson’s words will not go down well with the Tottenham fans, who will certainly not take kindly to his jibe, but there can be no denial that Chelsea will be favourites to win at White Hart Lane.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side had to rely on goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for a point against Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Sunday, and they cannot do so against Jose Mourinho’s side.
However, Tottenham’s chances cannot be written off just yet. Spurs are on a five-match unbeaten run and will make it tough for the Blues.
Perhaps Spurs will not head into the game as favourites, but they will certainly fancy a draw against Chelsea.
