Gary Neville expects Manchester United to sign players in the January transfer window.
United have been linked with a number of players, and are claimed by many media outlets that they will dip into the market this month.
Neville, a former United defender, believes that manager Louis van Gaal will reinforce his squad to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
“It won’t surprise me,” the ex-England international told Sky Sports when asked if United will strengthen in January.
“All the noise from Louis van Gaal and the club in the last few months has been that the business isn’t finished. You look at the defensive areas and the midfield… these are the main areas they will be looking at.”
Neville is not the first and will not be the last pundit to claim that United need to reinforce in defensive areas, but Van Gaal could well choose not to.
True, United are far from perfect at the back and injuries to key players have not helped, but one has to ask where Van Gaal will get top-quality centre-backs.
Moreover, the Dutchman has shown faith in youngsters like Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair, who have not fared badly.
United have long been linked with a move for AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, but it is unlikely that the Manchester outfit will be able to prise away the Dutchman from the Italian club this month.
