Manchester United and Arsenal look set for disappointment if their reported interest in Uruguayan striker Kevin Mendez is true.
Reports from well-respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio – along with a whole host of other news outlets from Italy – claim AS Roma have agreed a €2million deal for the 18-year-old who has been compared to his countryman Luis Suarez.
Reports earlier this month claimed United had targeted the teenager, while Arsenal were said to be pushing for a deal as recently as yesterday.
However it is now being reported that Mendez will leave Penarol for Roma before going out on loan to Perugia for the second half of the season.
Mendez is regarded as one of the world’s brightest young players, with Suarez himself praising him in the past, but it seems he will not be seen in England anytime soon, much to the disappointment of United, Arsenal and any other interested parties.
